Key Accomplishments

Through the years, the priorities of the Heartland Education Community, Inc. have evolved to focus on specific needs within the Orrville community.

Heartland's activities have resulted in the following accomplishments, which are a small sampling of numerous Heartland efforts.

Character Education and Citizenship:

  • Partnership with the Institute for Global Ethics
  • Support of Community and Orrville Schools Staff Training Programs
  • Creation of "Character Kits" Resource Guides for Faculty Members
  • Creation of the Word of the Month Initiative
  • Sponsorship of Orrville's Annual Character Education Week
  • Expansion of Junior Achievement Program to the Elementary Levels
  • Participation in the Institute for Global Ethics High School Ethical Literacy Project

Connecting Learning to Life:

  • Explored Concepts for Connecting Curriculum to Real Life Applications
  • Creation of Work Exploration Program
  • Development of School to Work Grant Initiative

Technology:

  • Established District-Wide Technology Plan
  • Assisted with Technology Implementation and Funding Plan

School Facilities Plan:

  • Transition to Grade-Specific Elementary Buildings
  • Explored and Initiated Implementation of Middle School Concept
  • Creation and Support of Long-Range Facilities Plan

Continuous Improvement Planning and Staff Development:

  • Sponsored Curriculum Enhancement and Ohio Proficiency Standards Training
  • Facilitated Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation – History and Science Institutes
  • Conducted Kepner Tregoe Problem Solving and Decision Making Training
  • Assisted with Development of District’s Continuous Improvement Plan
  • Assisted with District's Strategic Planning Process

Community Education Programs:

  • Sponsored Family Math and Family Literacy Parties
  • Supported Ohio Reads Initiative
  • Offer Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All Ages at Heartland Point

Communication:

  • Publication of District Calendar and Annual Report
  • Creation of OrrViews Community Newspaper
  • Hosted Community Meetings to Communicate Key Messages for the District
